Background
We were contacted by a new client that was looking to introduce a retail product to be sold primarily at Costco. They were looking for a company that offered complete Custom Contract packaging. Which would include designing the product package & pallet displays, printing and manufacturing at both small and potentially large quantities, and assembly of the product into packages and displays. The final step would be shipping complete Pallet Displays stretch wrapped and shipped directly to Costco Warehouses. Lastly, this customer was comparing the Pro’s and Con’s of a US Partner vs China Vendor
Challenges
- Design a package and display that the Customer was excited about while staying within Costco Specifications.
- Customer wanted to start with smaller quantities for the Costco test, knowing if it went well it could evolve into much larger order quantities
- Choose a type of package that could be manufactured efficiently at both small and large quantities.
- Custom designing this package & display to best compete on pricing with a vendor from China on all aspects of the new product launch, including the kitting & assembly of displays.
Solutions Approach
- We assigned a complete team with to meet with customer to discuss the goals of their custom packaged product, from the initial idea and the reasons behind it, to the overall fulfillment scope.
- Designed package and Display with customer, then made CAD samples that were sent to Costco for approval on both design, printing, and pallet display layout.
- Finalized kitting and distribution process in conjunction with Costco specifications to offer the lowest cost options and fastest turnarounds on both manufacturing and kitting/assembly process to best compete with vendor from China.
